Founded in 2001 in partnership with the Kenwood United Church of Christ – as a continuation of KUCC’s rich history of caring for physical and emotional help, and fostering spiritual wellbeing.
The clinic was created to help meet the health care needs of the medically uninsured and underinsured people of Kenwood and surrounding neighborhoods in Chicago, many of whom were patrons of the church’s feeding program, and many were unemployed, underemployed and/or unhoused. Inclusive from the start, the NJSFC served persons free of charge regardless of race, gender, age, faith, national origin, or sexual orientation and expanded access to anyone in the Chicagoland area.
In the first twelve years of service, the NJSFC provided over 10,000 clinic visits for clients who would otherwise have gone without health care.
Our Team
Affiliated with the NJSFC is a case manager who aids clients in securing employment opportunities, housing, health care benefits, and life skills. As availability allows, the NJSFC also benefits from volunteer nurses, medical students, advanced practice nursing students, and resident physicians.
